Trail Description
Chatham Reach in Pitt Meadows is a super relaxed riverside walk when you just want to move your legs without climbing anything. The 10.6 km out-and-back trail is almost completely flat, with only 29 m of gain, so it feels more like a long stroll than a hike and usually takes around two hours at an easy pace.
The trail follows the Pitt River, with open views of the water, distant mountains, and surrounding farms pretty much the whole way. The path is wide gravel, great for walking, jogging, or casual bike rides, and you’ll likely spot eagles, herons, ducks, plus horses, cows, and other farm animals along the dike. There isn’t much shade, so on hot or sunny days it can feel exposed.
Recent visitors say Chatham Reach has great views the whole way but have noticed a lot of dog poop left on the trail, so if you’re bringing a dog, be responsible and pack bags. It’s very easy and family-friendly, open year-round, and stays usable in most weather, though it can be windy along the river and a bit soggy at the edges after heavy rain. Go early or later in the day for a quieter experience, bring water, sun protection, and good walking shoes, and just enjoy a flat, easy outing by the river in Pitt Meadows.
