Trail Description

Alouette River Paddle: Harris Road Bridge to Neaves Road in Pitt Meadows is an easy, mellow out-and-back on flat water that feels surprisingly away from it all. At 8.5 km with almost no elevation gain, it’s a very easy route that usually takes under an hour if you just cruise, though most people linger to enjoy the views and wildlife. This stretch is popular with kayaks and paddle boards, but it still has a calm, low-key vibe, especially on weekdays.

You launch under the Harris Road “Silver Bridge” and follow the Alouette River as it winds through open farmland with big views toward Golden Ears and the surrounding mountains. The water is generally calm, shallow, and warm in summer, with a gentle current that’s friendly for newer paddlers as long as they pay attention to wind and tide. Expect herons, ducks, geese, and all kinds of waterfowl along the banks, plus the odd otter or beaver if you’re lucky, while walkers and cyclists use the dike trail above.

Recent paddles report low water later in the summer, so be prepared for shallow sections and the odd scrape if levels have been dry. The Silver Bridge launch has been improved and is easier for carrying boats, but parking around Harris Road and nearby streets can be tight on sunny days. There’s very little shade on the adjacent trail, so bring sun protection if you plan to walk, and in winter it can be chilly and damp but still very calm and scenic, with even more bird activity along this Alouette River route in Pitt Meadows.
