Trail Description
Alouette River Dykes Trail in Pitt Meadows is the classic flat, easy riverside cruise when you just want big views without a big effort. This 14 km out-and-back route has only about 30 m of gain and tops out around 12 m, so it’s more of a scenic stroll or spin than a grind, usually taking around two and a half hours on foot. It’s popular with walkers, cyclists, families, and dog owners, and the mix of river, farms, and mountain backdrops gives it that wide-open Fraser Valley feel.
You start near Harris Road and follow the Alouette River along a wide gravel dyke, heading toward Jerry Sulina Park. The path is straight, open, and easy to follow, with constant views of the river on one side and snow-capped Golden Ears and surrounding peaks on the horizon. It’s great for birdwatching too, and if you slow down and scan the trees, you’ve got a good chance of spotting eagles hanging out above the water.
Right now the Alouette River Dykes Trail is in good shape: flat, well maintained, and very accessible, including for wheelchairs and strollers. Expect it to be busy on sunny days, especially with people biking, kids running around, and folks checking out the nearby pumpkin patch in season. There’s lots of parking by the trailhead, benches along the way, and easy river access if you want to bring a bike, bathing suits, and the kids for a low-stress afternoon; just remember there’s almost no shade, so pack sun protection and water if you’re out in the middle of the day.
