Trail Description
The Watershed Park to River Road trail in Delta, BC is a long, easy out-and-back that’s ideal if you want steady movement without big climbs. At 15.3 km with only 76 m of gain and a max altitude around 20 m, it’s more about distance than effort, and most people wrap it up in about three hours on foot or under an hour on a bike. It links quiet forest paths with open bog and utility corridor sections, so it feels like a proper little tour of Delta’s green space.
On the ground, the route is mostly flat with a few short hills, including a punchy climb on Brooke Road that will wake up your legs and a fun downhill toward Highway 10 on the way back. Much of Watershed Park to River Road is tree-lined, which keeps things cooler and calmer, but you’ll also pass through boggy areas where the views open up and wildlife shows up in a big way. Recent riders have spotted bunnies, ducks, herons or cranes, eagles, and clouds of dragonflies along the ditches and wetlands.
Current conditions can be very wet, and that’s the main thing to plan around. Reviewers report washed-out sections around the 5 km mark and three-quarters of the way from south to north, with parts of the bog “the most under water it’s ever been,” plus mud, slick patches, and informal “goat trail” detours to keep feet dry. The main path is generally well maintained, but bring waterproof shoes or boots, expect puddles, and be ready to turn around if flooding or controlled water releases make the route impassable, especially in the wetter months from late fall through early spring.
