Trail Description

Roberts Bank Coastal Trail in Delta is a flat, easy dyke walk with big sky and ocean views the whole way. The route runs 3.7 km point to point along the Strait of Georgia, with only 14 m of elevation gain and a max height of around 8 m, so it feels more like a scenic stroll than a hike. Plan closer to 1.5 hours if you’re going out and back instead of shuttling a car.

The trail itself is a wide gravel maintenance road between the rail causeway and the Tsawwassen ferry causeway, so navigation is simple: you just follow the dyke. You get constant views over the ocean and wetlands, with thousands of seabirds using the Roberts Bank area as a feeding and resting stop. You’ll also see the port and ferry traffic in the distance, which gives the walk an interesting working-coast feel instead of a remote wilderness vibe.

Recent visitors mention lots of wasps hanging around the wooden power poles, so keep an eye out if you’re sensitive to stings and give the poles some space. The “parking lot” at one end can feel a bit sketchy and informal, but once you’re on the Roberts Bank Coastal Trail the path is open and exposed with no shade at all. It can get very windy out here, and on hot summer days the sun reflects off the gravel and water, so bring more water than you think you need, wear a hat, and aim for cooler mornings or evenings in July and August.
