Trail Description

Burns Bog Trail in Delta, BC is a short, quirky loop that feels more like an outdoor science lab than a standard forest walk. At 4.2 km with barely any elevation, it’s a very easy route that most people finish in under an hour, but the peat bog, boardwalks, and odd features like the sunken tractor keep it interesting. Expect some highway noise in the background, but also long stretches of quiet where you really feel tucked into the bog and trees.

The loop starts on a short gravel path before you hit the wooden boardwalk that carries you through the heart of Burns Bog. Most of the route is on planks, often with wire mesh, winding past wetland pools, thick bog plants, mushrooms, and plenty of bugs and birds. It’s flat, family friendly, and well marked, with enough little details along the way to keep kids and curious adults engaged.

Right now, conditions on Burns Bog Trail are hit and miss. Parts of the loop are flooded or damaged from storms, with fallen trees and broken boardwalk sections, and several inner and outer sections are closed; in heavy rain, some areas are under water and you can end up muddy fast. The crew is active and there are usually signs and barricades, but closures aren’t always posted at the very start, so check current info and be ready to turn around. Bring bug spray, waterproof shoes, and think twice about strollers or wheelchairs, as some wet and bumpy patches make access tough despite the boardwalk.
