Trail Description

Boundary Bay in Delta, BC is a short, easy coastal loop that’s all about big skies, shorebirds, and ocean air. At just 3.7 km with only 11 m of elevation, it’s more of a relaxed wander than a workout, usually done in under an hour. Think gentle gravel paths, beach access, and constant views across Boundary Bay toward the North Shore mountains on a clear day.

The Boundary Bay trail loops through marshland and along the edge of Centennial Beach, so you get a mix of salty shoreline and quiet, flat dike walking. Birders love this area for a reason: expect water birds everywhere, with regular sightings of herons, sandpipers, killdeer, and bald eagles cruising overhead. You’ll pass by the Secret Garden area and can easily extend your outing toward the new Southlands development in Tsawwassen if you feel like exploring a bit more.

Recent hikers report a windy, wet walk, so bring a waterproof layer and rubber boots if the forecast looks rough or the tide has been high. The gravel surface is easy underfoot, but it can be noisy, so pause now and then if you want to really hear the birds. Boundary Bay in Delta is open year-round and stays very manageable in all seasons, though winter and shoulder seasons are the best for serious bird activity and stormy, wave-watching vibes along the beach.
