Trail Description

Artesian Trail in Delta, BC is a short, super mellow walk that feels more like a relaxed forest stroll than a workout. At about 4 km out-and-back with only 33 m of elevation gain, it usually takes around 50 minutes, making it an easy choice for families, casual walkers, or anyone easing into hiking. It’s part of Watershed Park, so you get that “away from the city” feel without actually having to drive very far.

The trail follows a wide, mostly flat route through second-growth forest, with tall trees, soft ground underfoot, and plenty of shade. You’ll pass the old pump house, which adds a bit of local history to the walk, and there’s a good chance of spotting birds and hearing woodpeckers and chickadees along the way. With a max altitude of around 23 m, there are no real climbs, just a steady, easy path that works well for all ages.

Recent reports say the Artesian Trail is in good shape overall, but it does get muddy in spots, especially after rain, so footwear that can handle wet patches is a smart call. This is also a popular road for mountain biking, so keep an eye and ear out and step to the side when riders come through; the trail is wide enough to share if everyone’s paying attention. Bugs haven’t been an issue lately, and the trail usually feels comfortable from February through October, with winter still doable if you don’t mind some extra mud and puddles.
