Trail Description

Village Lake Trail to Munro Lake via Harper Road Access is one of those Coquitlam hikes that feels longer and tougher than the stats suggest. At 18.8 km return with about 790 m of gain, it’s a solid full-day outing, rated challenging for good reason, but the payoff is a quiet mountain lake setting and a real “out there” vibe without driving deep into the backcountry.

The route starts from Harper Road and climbs steadily through forest, with the elevation mostly coming in long, gradual stretches rather than brutal, steep pitches. Once you reach the Village Lake area things ease off and flatten for a while before the final push toward Munro Lake, where you get open views, calm water, and classic Coast Mountains scenery that makes the grind worth it.

Recent hikers report snow lingering on the Village Lake Trail to Munro Lake above about 900 m, so expect slushy or packed sections and bring proper footwear, even in shoulder season. The nearby Gunner trail is currently overgrown with lots of wasp nests and faint markers, so most people are sticking to the Village Lake Trail out-and-back, which is in better shape and easier to follow. Plan for about six hours on the move, more with breaks, start early, and aim for May to October for the best conditions, keeping in mind that snow can hang around well into spring at this elevation.
