Trail Description

Twin Islands Paddle is a relaxed coastal adventure just off Belcarra, near Coquitlam, and it’s one of the easiest ways to feel like you’ve gone “out there” without actually going far. At 10.9 km with almost no elevation gain, this loop is very easy and usually takes just under two hours, making it friendly for beginners but still fun for more experienced paddlers looking to explore the islands and shoreline.

The paddle out from the Belcarra side takes you across calm inlet waters, with mountain and forest views framing the route and plenty of sheltered spots if you want to pause. Around Twin Islands you can nose into little coves, watch for marine life at low tide, and pull up at the main island dock where there’s a clearing to stash kayaks, canoes, or paddleboards while you wander the tent pads and shoreline.

Current reports say the Twin Islands Paddle remains straightforward, but you’ll want to check tides, wind, and parking rules at Belcarra, as there’s no overnight parking in the main lots. The islands themselves are set up for simple camping with tent pads and composting toilets, but you must pack in all your water, pack out everything, and there are no campfires allowed. Expect some quirky local colour too: paddlers mention late-night trombone jazz drifting across from the mainland, more amusing than annoying, and a reminder you’re still close to Coquitlam even when it feels like you’ve escaped the city.
