Trail Description

Sasamat Lake Loop Trail - Woodhaven Trail - Woodhaven Swamp Loop Trail is a mellow forest-and-lakes combo in Belcarra Regional Park, just north of Coquitlam near Anmore. At 8.4 km with only 192 m of gain and a high point around 138 m, it’s more of a relaxed wander than a serious workout, and most people wrap it up in around two hours. Expect a quiet, easy loop that strings together Sasamat Lake, deep green forest, and the eerie, flooded trees of Woodhaven Swamp.

The route usually starts along the shoreline of Sasamat Lake, with packed dirt and a few short inclines as you work your way toward the Woodhaven Trail. From there you head inland to the Woodhaven Swamp Loop Trail, where the drowned forest and wetland views are the real highlight, even on rainy days. On the way back, the loop returns to Sasamat Lake, crosses the floating walkway, and finishes near White Pine Beach, which is a nice spot to linger if you’ve still got time on the parking clock.

Right now, expect some disruptions: both loops have bridge closures and the Woodhaven Swamp boardwalk has sections still under reconstruction after summer 2024, so the swamp loop may not fully connect and you might need short detours. The trail itself is easy and well maintained, fine for beginners and families, but don’t come here looking for big viewpoints or a heavy cardio push. Paid parking is in effect and can be steep if you stay all day, so check current rates, aim for earlier in the day to avoid gate lock-up times, and plan extra time if you want to explore every spur around Sasamat Lake and Woodhaven Swamp.
