Trail Description

Ridge Park Loop Trail in Coquitlam is a compact little grind that feels more “local forest” than big mountain mission. At 4.5 km with about 268 m of gain, it’s a moderate loop that most people finish in well under the posted 1 hour 43 minutes, but it will still get your heart rate up right out of the gate. It’s close to the city, usually quiet, and has that “urban escape” vibe locals love.

The Ridge Park Loop Trail is mostly about forest time, not big open vistas. You’ll wind through tall second-growth trees, soft dirt, roots, and some loose rock, with a few short steep sections that can feel tricky without poles. Views are limited to a small lookout over Coquitlam and some peekaboo city and mountain glimpses, plus the odd creek or wet section, but the mix of terrain keeps it interesting and it’s great for off-leash dogs to burn energy.

Current reports all say the same thing: the trail is not well marked and there are tons of side paths, so download an offline map before you go or you’ll end up on the wrong fork. Expect some steep climbs and descents, occasional water running down the trail, mud in wetter months, mosquitoes in warmer weather, and compact snow or ice in winter where microspikes or Yaktrax help. Go clockwise if you want the steeper bits on the way up instead of down, leash your dog at the cliff viewpoint, wear waterproof shoes in the rainy season, and enjoy this quick Coquitlam loop when you want a solid workout without leaving town.
