Trail Description

Mundy Lake and Nature Interpretive Trail Loop in Coquitlam is one of those quick, low-stress walks that still feels like you’ve stepped out of the city for a bit. The loop is about 2.4 km with only 21 m of elevation gain, so it’s truly very easy and usually takes around half an hour at a relaxed pace. It’s a classic Mundy Park family walk, with lots of locals using it as their go-to nature break.

The trail circles Mundy Lake through tall second-growth forest, with wide, well-groomed paths that work for strollers and little kids. You get steady views of the lake, and on calm days the reflections are surprisingly good for a city park. It’s popular for birdwatching, and you’ll often hear more birds than traffic, which is impressive considering how close you are to suburban Coquitlam.

Recent visitors describe Mundy Lake and Nature Interpretive Trail Loop as easy, quiet on weekdays, and great for kids, with lots of parking at Mundy Park. A few hikers have seen multiple black bears near the trail and in the water, so stay alert, give them space, and consider avoiding dawn and dusk in peak bear season. Dogs are not allowed on this loop, which is a dealbreaker for some, so if you’re planning a walk with your pup, stick to the other dog-friendly trails in Mundy Park and save this one for a simple, dog-free stroll around the lake.
