Trail Description
Eagle Mountain Powerline Trail in Coquitlam is the definition of a straightforward grind with a solid payoff. It’s an 8.2 km out-and-back on a wide gravel and rocky service road under the lines, with about 284 m of gain and a high point around 476 m, so most people wrap it up in about two and a half hours. Think easy rating, but still enough of a workout to feel like you did something.
The route starts with a short forested stretch, then opens up to that classic powerline corridor, so don’t expect deep wilderness vibes. Underfoot it’s loose rock and chunky gravel in spots, with a few steeper pitches that can surprise beginners, but nothing technical. Views kick in early and again at the turnaround, where you can look out over Belcarra, Buntzen Lake, and across to Mount Seymour and its peaks, and from there you can connect to other Eagle Mountain roads and bike lines if you want to keep exploring.
Recent hikers confirm Eagle Mountain Powerline Trail is open despite nearby construction; you just follow the gravel road around it. You’ll be sharing the route with mountain bikes and sometimes motorbikes, so expect some noise and keep dogs close, even though many people do let them roam. The trail is mostly exposed, so bring sun protection, wear proper footwear for the loose rock, and carry bear spray as there are regular bear sightings and scat in the area; as of late August 2025, keep an eye out for a missing husky named Frieda near the Blue Line Trail and call the posted number if you spot her.
