Trail Description

Cypress Lake Trail in Coquitlam, British Columbia is a solid choice if you want a short but sweaty hike without committing your whole day. This 8 km out-and-back route climbs about 470 m to around 808 m, so it feels like a workout but still lands in the moderate range for most hikers, usually taking about two and a half hours.

The trail winds through classic West Coast forest with plenty of bird activity in the trees, so it’s a good one if you like some nature sounds with your climb. The grade is steady enough to get your heart rate up, and Cypress Lake itself is a calm little payoff spot where you can sit, snack, and cool down before heading back.

Recent hikers say the descent on Cypress Lake Trail is quite technical, with roots and uneven ground that keep your eyes locked on your feet most of the way down. Hiking poles or a sturdy walking stick really help save the knees on the return. There are no official markings and lots of side paths and false turns, so follow the AllTrails route closely and respect all posted access signs. The trail is generally accessible year-round in Coquitlam, but expect mud, slick sections, and possibly snow or ice at higher spots in the shoulder seasons and winter, and plan footwear accordingly.
