Trail Description

Coquitlam River Walk in Coquitlam is one of those easy local loops you end up coming back to all the time. At 2.9 km with barely any elevation gain, it’s more of a relaxed riverside stroll than a hike, and usually takes around half an hour at a casual pace. Families, new hikers, and dog owners all use this as a go-to spot when they just want to get outside without making a big mission out of it.

The loop follows the Coquitlam River through a green, shaded corridor, with a wide, flat path that’s friendly for kids, seniors, and bikes. You get constant river views, plenty of access points to the water, and enough forest cover to keep it cooler on hot summer days and reasonably dry in light rain. Even though you’re in the city, traffic noise fades out and it feels like a quiet little escape.

Recent trail reports all say the same thing: Coquitlam River Walk is easygoing, wide, and well-used, with lots of dogs and a few bikes, so be ready to share the space. There are plenty of spots for dogs to hop in the river, but keep them leashed where required and watch the current in spring. This loop is walkable year-round, though April to September is the sweet spot for dry ground and comfortable temps, and it’s a solid backup plan when you want something simple, flat, and close to home.
