Trail Description
Coquitlam River Trail - Bullet Dodger - Woodland Walk - Lower Vic's is a solid moderate out-and-back route in Coquitlam that strings together riverfront cruising with a proper climb. At 11.7 km with about 630 m of elevation gain and a high point around 647 m, it’s the kind of hike that feels manageable but still leaves your legs humming. Most people wrap it up in just over four hours, and it’s popular with both hikers and trail runners who want a mix of easy and grind.
The route starts near Shaughnessy Street and Karley Crescent, following the Coquitlam River Trail on a flat, mellow path where you can ease in beside the water. After a bit more than two kilometres you hang a right onto Bullet Dodger, then link Woodland Walk and Lower Vic's as the grade kicks up and you “feel the burn” on the steady incline. Forest views, river sounds, and a classic North Shore-style mix of roots and dirt keep it interesting without feeling sketchy or technical.
Right now, recent reports say the Coquitlam River section is in good shape and great for running, with the climb on Bullet Dodger and Lower Vic's being the main workout. Expect a consistent uphill rather than short, steep bursts, and plan footwear with decent grip, especially in wet months when mud and slick roots show up. The Coquitlam River Trail - Bullet Dodger - Woodland Walk - Lower Vic's route can be done year-round, but winter storms and higher elevation snow can lead to temporary closures in the Pinecone Burke area, so it’s worth checking BC Parks updates before you go and bringing layers for fast-changing conditions.
