Trail Description

Burke Mountain Downhill in Coquitlam is exactly what it sounds like: a simple, steady descent through classic West Coast forest. At 3.2 km long with virtually no elevation gain, it’s an easy point-to-point stroll that usually takes around an hour and a half, depending on how often you stop to look around. It’s a good option if you want a relaxed outing on Burke Mountain without grinding up steep climbs.

The trail drops gently from the Burke Mountain trail network down toward Harper Road, following old forest roads and bike lines under tall trees. Views are mostly about the forest itself: mossy trunks, filtered light, and the occasional opening where you can catch a glimpse of the surrounding slopes. You’ll likely share sections with mountain bikers, so keep an ear out and step aside when needed.

Recent hikers say Burke Mountain Downhill is easy to follow in general but not well marked, and it’s surprisingly simple to drift onto side trails, so having a GPS track or map open helps a lot. Fresh bear scat has been spotted along the route, so carry bear spray, make noise, and avoid leaving food scraps. The trail usually works best from spring through fall, but check for Pinecone Burke Provincial Park seasonal closures and be ready for mud, slick roots, and cooler temperatures at the roughly 775 m high point, especially outside the summer months.
