Trail Description

Burke Mountain Dawg and Hustler is a short, punchy out-and-back trail on the lower slopes of Burke Mountain in Coquitlam, BC. At just 2.3 km with about 124 m of gain and a high point around 381 m, it’s an easy hike that usually takes under an hour, but still gives you that “I went for a real walk in the woods” feeling. It’s a good option if you live in the Tri-Cities and want something close to home that doesn’t eat up your whole day.

The Dawg and Hustler route follows a multi-use trail through classic Burke forest, with a mix of second-growth trees, roots, and a few short, punchy climbs. You’ll share the path with mountain bikers, so keep your ears open and be ready to step aside on narrow sections. There aren’t big open viewpoints on this one; the appeal is more about the cool, shaded forest and the quick escape from the nearby Burke Mountain neighbourhoods.

Right now, expect the Burke Mountain Dawg and Hustler trail to be wet and muddy from recent snow and rain, with lingering slush in colder stretches. More importantly, hikers have reported new or more prominent Private Property and No Trespassing signs near access points, so do not ignore them and be prepared to turn back or choose another route if access is blocked. This area has seen ongoing development and seasonal closures, especially in winter, so check the latest info from BC Parks and local trail groups, go in daylight, keep dogs at home, and treat any posted signage as the final word.
