Trail Description
Admiralty Point Trail Loop is actually in Belcarra, just west of Coquitlam, and it’s one of those routes that starts out way nicer than it finishes. The full loop is about 9.7 km with 230 m of gain, topping out around 145 m, and most people wrap it up in about 2.5 hours. On paper it’s an easy loop, but the experience really depends on how much road walking and rougher sections you’re willing to tolerate.
The best part of the Admiralty Point Trail Loop is the coastal stretch from Belcarra towards Admiralty Point and Burns Point. You get a well-built forest trail, water views, access to small beaches, and plenty of spots to stop and watch boat traffic in Indian Arm. Once you leave the shoreline, the character changes fast: there’s a steep forest climb, a powerline corridor, and then a long, uninspiring road and service-road section that most people don’t love.
Recent hikers report a mix of unmaintained trail, unsigned junctions, and a section across a “private” service road where abandoned clothing, trash, and a sketchy “private resort” sign make things feel uncomfortable and potentially unsafe. There’s also walking along a paved road with no sidewalk and cars passing close by. Right now, the honest advice is to treat Admiralty Point Trail as an out-and-back from Belcarra to Admiralty Point or Burns Point and skip the full loop, especially if you’re hiking with kids or prefer a more relaxed outing; use a trail app for navigation, go in daylight, and save the loop for a future visit if conditions and access improve.
