Trail Description

Velodrome and Pandora Trail in Burnaby is the local go-to if you want your legs to burn without losing your whole day. This 2.9 km out-and-back route packs in about 233 m of gain and usually takes around 1 hour 20 minutes, but you’ll feel the effort right from the start. Think more intense stair workout than gentle forest stroll, with a solid payoff at the top.

The trail starts with roughly 500–550 stairs that come at you quickly, with small steps that feel more like stadium training than hiking. After the stairs, the grade stays steep on a regular trail, so your heart rate won’t get a break until near the top. On clear days, the Velodrome and Pandora Trail rewards you with wide city and North Shore views, which makes it a popular spot for quick evening climbs and repeat stair laps.

As of April 12, 2025, the Velodrome and Pandora Trail is closed indefinitely due to poor conditions, so check the City of Burnaby website before you drive over. When it is open, expect crowds, a straightforward but steep route, and stairs that can get slick with frost or rain, so good tread is important. Parking is usually available across the road on weekends, the trail is short enough for an after-work grind, and the climb feels reasonable if you’re moderately fit and not hauling a heavy pack.
