Trail Description

Byrne Creek Ravine Loop Trail in Burnaby is one of those quick city escapes that feels way more “forest” than “urban.” At just 3.1 km with about 79 m of gain, it’s an easy loop you can knock off in under an hour, but still come away feeling like you actually got outside. Street parking is free on the surrounding roads, and access from Ron McLean Park makes it a super convenient after-work or weekend walk.

The loop follows Byrne Creek through a cool, shaded ravine, with the sound of moving water pretty much the whole way. You’ll walk under a solid tree canopy, cross a bridge, and wind along packed dirt, some roots, and a few short stair sections, with only minimal street walking. Despite being in Burnaby, the trail feels surprisingly quiet and peaceful, and kids, dogs, and casual walkers all do well here.

Recent hikers report the Byrne Creek Ravine Loop Trail is well maintained and dog friendly, with pups loving the cold creek water on hot days, though leashes are required. After heavy rain the creek runs fast and parts of the trail can get muddy, and in winter there can be icy patches on the stairs and slopes, so decent footwear helps. The route is open year-round, mostly shaded and cool in summer, and there are washrooms by the park entrance, making this an easy, low-stress local loop to fit into a busy day in Burnaby.
