Trail Description

Trail of Hope in Burnaby is a super gentle 2.3 km loop that feels more like a relaxed park walk than a hike. With only 17 m of elevation gain and a high point around 134 m, it usually takes about 25–30 minutes, making it an easy option for families, casual walkers, and anyone easing into regular movement.

The loop mixes paved and gravel sections, winding past mature trees, open green spaces, and a lagoon that draws in ducks, geese, and plenty of squirrels. You’ll share the Trail of Hope with joggers, dog walkers, and the odd cyclist, so it has a steady, lived-in feel rather than a remote backcountry vibe. Benches and picnic tables along the way make it simple to pause, people-watch, and enjoy a slow lap.

Recent reports mention a lot of bird poop on sections of the path, especially near the water and where geese like to hang out, so wear shoes you don’t mind getting a bit messy and watch your step. The route is mostly flat and wide, with accessible parking off Imperial Street, though the gravel stretches can be a bit rough for some mobility devices without all-terrain tires. Trail of Hope in Burnaby is open year-round; expect wetter, slicker patches in fall and winter and heavier bird traffic in spring, when the geese and ducks are most active.
