Trail Description

Stoney Creek Trail in Burnaby is a short, super mellow walk that feels more like a neighborhood escape than a big backcountry mission. At just 2.1 km point-to-point with only 39 m of elevation gain and a high point around 66 m, it’s flat, easy, and usually done in under half an hour. It’s a good choice for a quick stretch of the legs, a family stroll, or a low-key intro to Burnaby’s green spaces.

The trail follows Stoney Creek through a shaded urban forest, with the sound of water running beside you for much of the way. You’ll pass small bridges, mossy logs, and patches of ferns, and it links nicely with nearby paths if you want to extend your walk. Stoney Creek Trail is popular with dog walkers, runners, and locals, so expect some company but not a crowded scene if you go early or on a weekday.

Recent reports mention salmon running up the creek in November, which is a real highlight, along with a huge black bear sighting, so stay alert, keep dogs close, and make noise as you go. The grade is very easy, but roots and wet sections can get slick after rain, so basic trail shoes are helpful. Stoney Creek Trail in Burnaby is generally good year-round, with the most comfortable conditions from spring through fall, and late fall being the time to watch for salmon and more active wildlife.
