Trail Description

Robert Burnaby Park Loop in Burnaby is a short, mellow forest walk that feels surprisingly green for being right in the middle of the city. The loop is only about 2.1 km with 63 m of gain, so it’s more of a relaxed stroll than a workout, and most people finish it in around half an hour. It’s an easy option if you want some trees, a bit of fresh air, and a quick reset without leaving town.

The loop winds through second-growth forest on a mix of dirt and gravel paths, with roots, small wooden stairs, and the odd log or puddle to step around. You’ll pass close to other park features like the disc golf course and playing fields, but once you’re in the trees it still feels fairly quiet. The low elevation, around 101 m at most, means no big views, but the tall cedars, little streams, and shady sections keep it pleasant year-round.

Current reports for Robert Burnaby Park Loop mention two things to be aware of: the off-leash dog area in the south has no fence, and some larger dogs can be a bit too enthusiastic around kids, so keep little ones close. The northern half of the loop has felt sketchy to some walkers due to nearby encampments, so many locals now stick to the southern and central trails or visit during busy daylight hours. The loop is usable in all seasons, but expect mud and slick roots after rain, and bring a map app since the trails aren’t well marked and side paths criss-cross the park.
