Trail Description

Drummonds Walk East in Burnaby is one of those easy coastal walks you end up coming back to again and again. It’s a flat, 3.7 km out-and-back route along the Port Moody Arm, usually done in under an hour, and it feels more like a relaxed waterfront outing than a “hike.” With only about 22 m of elevation gain, it’s accessible for almost anyone and great if you just want fresh air without a workout.

The trail follows the shoreline from Barnet Marine Park, with constant ocean views, passing boats, and mountains framing the inlet. You’ll walk past sandy and pebbly beach areas, picnic spots, and grassy patches, with lots of room to pause and watch the water. Families, runners, and dog walkers all share the path, and on a clear day the light over the water is hard to beat, though even misty mornings have their own calm, moody feel.

Right now, Drummonds Walk East is in good shape for a casual stroll, with amenities being a big highlight: washrooms, picnic tables, a canteen in season, and a proper swimming beach for hot days. Expect many happy off-leash dogs in the designated dog-friendly zones, so keep an eye on signs if you prefer more space. The trail is open year-round, but it’s busiest on sunny weekends; for a quieter experience, go early or on a weekday and bring a light jacket since the breeze off the water can feel cool even when the rest of Burnaby is warm.
