Trail Description

Trans Canada Trail: Tamihi Campground in Chilliwack is a mellow riverside walk that feels a bit like a quick reset button. At 4.5 km out-and-back with only about 115 m of gain, it’s an easy route that usually takes just over an hour, but most people slow down to enjoy the Chilliwack River and the many spots to stop and watch the water.

The trail follows the river closely, so you’re getting steady views of fast-moving water, gravel bars, and forested banks almost the whole way. You’ll likely hear ATV and dirt bike noise near the start around Tamihi, but once you get a little distance, it settles into a calm, relaxing walk with lots of places to sit on a log, toss rocks, or let kids explore safely near the shore.

Recent hikers report the Trans Canada Trail: Tamihi Campground section as mostly dry with some muddy patches, especially after rain, so waterproof shoes are handy. It’s busy at times but still has a quiet feel, and the gentle grade makes it manageable for most, though one reviewer using a walking wheelchair found it challenging in spots due to uneven ground. This stretch works well year-round in Chilliwack’s mild climate, with cool, damp conditions common outside summer; plan for layers, expect a bit of mud, and give yourself time to stop and enjoy the river viewpoints along the way.
