Trail Description

Teapot Hill via Goat Trail in Cultus Lake, near Chilliwack, takes the classic family-friendly Teapot Hill hike and turns it up a notch. This 4.2 km loop with about 237 m of gain doesn’t sound huge on paper, but the Goat Trail section adds a legit workout, with some very steep, narrow stretches that feel more like a scramble than a stroll. If you want a short hike that still gets your heart rate up and gives you that “earned it” feeling at the top, this is it.

The loop usually starts from the Watt Creek trailhead, climbing through cool, dense forest before tying into the better-known Teapot Hill trail. The Goat Trail side is the steeper, rougher section, while the main Teapot Hill route is wider, more gradual, and dotted with hidden teapots, cups, and quirky decorations tucked into the trees. Views are mostly filtered through the forest, but you do get some nice peeks toward Cultus Lake and the surrounding hills, plus the fun of hunting for teapots keeps things interesting on the way up and down.

Recent hikers mention that the Goat Trail side is very steep and narrow in spots, with sections where you’ll want to use your hands, especially if it’s wet. It’s strongly recommended to go up the Goat Trail and come down the regular Teapot Hill side, not the other way around, as descending the steep section can feel sketchy. The loop can stretch closer to 6 km depending on side paths and teapot detours, so give yourself extra time, wear proper footwear with good grip, and avoid the Goat Trail after heavy rain if you’re not comfortable on slick, steep terrain. The trail is accessible year-round, but spring and fall can be muddy; summer is usually drier and more forgiving underfoot.
