Trail Description

Popkum Community Trail is a quick, quiet escape just off Highway 1 near Bridal Falls in the Popkum / Chilliwack area, and it feels more like a nature walk than a full hike. At only 1.6 km out-and-back with about 64 m of gain, it usually takes around half an hour, making it a nice stretch-your-legs stop on a drive through the Fraser Valley.

The trail starts on a flat boardwalk that leads you across marshland toward Cheam Wetlands, with birds and frogs usually doing most of the background noise. After that, there’s a short but noticeable stair climb into the trees, then a gentle forest walk to a raised viewing platform looking out over the western end of the wetlands. It’s simple, quiet, and feels surprisingly wild for being this close to the highway.

Right now, Popkum Community Trail has been reported as closed, so check the FVRD or local signage before you go to avoid a wasted trip. When it’s open, expect shade, roots underfoot, mosquitoes in warmer months, and a short stair section that might feel moderate for some but is still very manageable. Parking is tiny, with room for only a couple of vehicles, so go early or off-peak, and bring bug spray if you’re hitting this Chilliwack-area trail in late spring or summer.
