Trail Description
Pitxel Loop in Chilliwack is a quick, easy forest fix that feels more like a wander than a workout. At just 1.3 km with about 50 m of gain and a high point around 406 m, it usually takes under half an hour, which makes it a go-to for families, new hikers, and anyone easing back into things after a break.
The loop winds through dense, mossy forest with a soft, well-maintained trail and lots of gentle switchbacks instead of big climbs. Signage is excellent, with coloured routes and clear markers at every junction, so it’s very hard to get turned around. Expect fungi, ferns, and a shady green canopy, plus the occasional mountain biker, so keep an ear out and step aside early when you hear them coming.
Recent hikers say Pitxel Loop stays in good shape even when it’s wet, though it can be a bit damp underfoot, so grippy shoes help. Bug spray is a smart call in the warmer months, and the gravel road up to the parking lot is narrow, steep, and winding, so take it slow. Kids and dogs do well here, but it’s too rooty and uneven for strollers or wagons; locals hike it year-round and still call it a family favourite for a fast, low-stress outing near Chilliwack.
