Trail Description

Not So Angry and Lawnmower's Trail is a mellow little loop tucked into the woods above Cultus Lake near Chilliwack, not actually in the Columbia Valley core like some older descriptions say. At 5.1 km with about 219 m of gain and a high point around 623 m, it’s an easy loop that most people finish in about an hour and forty minutes without rushing. It’s a good choice if you want a low-commitment outing on Vedder Mountain that still feels like a real hike, not just a stroll around town.

The loop starts from Vedder Mountain Forest Service Road, where you can pull off and park, then walk a short stretch of Rutted Hill to reach the start of Not So Angry. Once you’re on the actual trail, it settles into classic Chilliwack forest: soft dirt, roots, and a mix of second-growth trees with pockets of bigger old trunks. There aren’t big open viewpoints on Not So Angry and Lawnmower's Trail, but the quiet, shaded forest and rolling terrain make it ideal for hiking or running without much traffic.

Recent reports describe the route as easy rather than truly “moderate,” though the short climbs can still get your heart rate up if you’re moving fast. Expect some mud in the wetter months and a few slick roots after rain, but it’s usually passable year-round with basic footwear and a bit of care. Download a map before you go since there are multiple intersecting trails on Vedder Mountain, keep an eye out for bikes on nearby routes, and bring a leash if your dog doesn’t have solid recall, as off-leash is common but not guaranteed everywhere.
