Trail Description
Mount Webb in Chilliwack is the kind of hike that separates “I like hiking” from “I live for this.” This long, punishing out-and-back pushes up from the Chilliwack Lake area for roughly 21–24 km with around 1,677 m of gain to about 2,093 m, and most people underestimate it. Expect a very difficult day or a solid overnight, not a casual half-day wander.
The Mount Webb trail starts on a well-defined path through dense forest, with steady, unrelenting climbing and plenty of water sources and greenery to distract you from the grind. You’ll pass Radium Lake, then the trail steepens sharply toward the col, turning into loose rock, scree, and in early season, a snow-filled couloir that often needs microspikes and poles. Above treeline, the work finally pays off with huge 360-degree views over Chilliwack Lake, Mount Baker, Shuksan, Rexford, and the surrounding peaks, plus an easy but loose final scramble from the saddle to the summit.
Recent hikers report the distance closer to 24–26 km round trip, with 5–6 hours up to near the summit with overnight packs and around 10–11 hours return as a day trip. The trail is well marked to Radium Lake, then steeper, rougher, and sometimes overgrown, with loose “kitty litter” rock on the upper slopes and very unstable sand on the descent. Expect heavy mosquitoes from Radium Lake upward in midsummer, so bring serious bug protection, strong footwear with good grip, poles, and plan this for snowmelt season onward, typically July through August, if you want to avoid full snow coverage on the upper mountain.
