Trail Description

Maple Bay Interpretive Trail is a short, relaxed wander in Cultus Lake Provincial Park near Chilliwack, and it’s exactly the kind of trail you choose when you want nature without the effort. At 2.7 km return with only about 50 m of elevation gain and a max altitude of around 87 m, it’s a true very easy walk that most people finish in about 40 minutes. It links the Maple Bay campground to the beach, so it works well as a quick outing from camp or a leg-stretcher after a drive from Chilliwack.

The Maple Bay Interpretive Trail is wide, smooth, and straightforward, making it friendly for families, casual walkers, and anyone who just wants a calm stroll under the trees. You’ll pass through second-growth forest with interpretive signs, then pop out at Maple Bay beach where Cultus Lake opens up in front of you with clear views across the water. The Maple Bay Amphitheatre sits along the route, and in busier seasons it hosts kids’ fishing lessons and small shows, adding a bit of interest beyond the usual forest walk.

Recent visitors mention quiet trails, very few people, and colourful leaves, which makes fall a great time to walk the Maple Bay Interpretive Trail. The path is generally well maintained and easy underfoot, but can get damp after rain, so basic hikers or running shoes with some grip are enough. The area has good amenities including washrooms, showers, boat launches, picnic tables, and garbage bins, and the trail is open year-round, with spring and autumn offering the most comfortable temperatures around Cultus Lake and Chilliwack.
