Trail Description

Liumchen Creek Valley is a rugged out-and-back trail in the Chilliwack area, running about 15.4 km with roughly 772 m of elevation gain. It’s rated challenging for good reason: the distance, steady climb, and rougher surfaces make it a solid workout that usually takes around five and a half hours. If you like quieter routes away from the crowds around Cultus Lake, this one feels a lot more remote.

The Liumchen Creek Valley trail follows an old forest service and logging road corridor, then narrows into more traditional singletrack as you head deeper into the valley. You’ll hear the creek for much of the way, with several viewpoints of the water and a few small waterfalls along the route. The max altitude is only about 681 m, so you don’t get big alpine panoramas, but you do get a classic Chilliwack forest hike with a mix of mossy trees, open cutblocks, and views down the valley when the clouds lift.

Current reports highlight that this route is heavily used by ATVs and dirt bikes, since it’s part of the Trans Canada Trail and accessed via Liumchen Creek Forest Service Road. Expect rutted sections, loose rock, mud in wet weather, and traffic from motorized users, especially on weekends; keep dogs leashed and your ears open. Download an offline GPS map before you go, as junctions and old spur roads can be confusing and signage isn’t great. Liumchen Creek Valley is generally accessible year-round from Chilliwack, but shoulder seasons can bring snow at higher points and slick creek crossings, so good footwear and a flexible turnaround plan are smart.
