Trail Description

Lindeman Lake Trail in Chilliwack is short, punchy, and a bit of a grind in the best way. This 3.4 km out-and-back climbs about 218 m through forest to a bright blue alpine lake at around 842 m, and most people are at the water in under an hour even though the “official” time says longer. It’s a local favourite, so expect company, but the payoff at the lake makes it an easy go-to hike in the Fraser Valley.

The trail starts in the trees and stays shaded most of the way, weaving up through roots, rocks, and boulder “stairs” beside creeks and small cascades. The grade is steady and mostly uphill, but the distance is short and there are lots of natural spots to pull over and catch your breath. Once you pop out at Lindeman Lake, you get clear green-blue water, mountain walls, and enough shoreline to spread out a bit, swim, or just hang out and watch the tiny, bold squirrels work the crowd.

Right now, hikers report dry, dusty, and rocky conditions when there’s been no rain, so good shoes with grip and maybe poles are smart; this is not stroller-friendly terrain. The trail is very well marked with orange squares, and there are toilets at the trailhead and near the lake, but parking can overflow onto the road on busy weekends and holidays. For Lindeman Lake Trail, early mornings or weekday afternoons are best to dodge the worst of the crowds, enjoy some quieter forest, and still catch the fall colours or late-day light on the water; dogs are common, so keep yours leashed and be ready for lots of off-leash pups and plenty of people on prime days.
