Trail Description
Lady Peak Trail in Chilliwack shares its start with the busy Mount Cheam route, but quickly turns into a far more serious climb. At 6.9 km with about 743 m of gain to around 2148 m, it’s short, steep, and rated difficult for good reason. Expect a fast grind rather than a mellow wander, with big views and big exposure as your reward.
The Lady Peak Trail splits from Cheam on a rocky section, then points almost straight up. You’ll be weaving through loose rock, narrow ledges, and some real scrambling near the top, with huge drops off the ridge and a clear look at the glacier on the far side. On clear days you get wide open views of the Cheam Range and, if you’re lucky, that “sea of clouds” effect where nearby peaks poke through the cloud layer.
Recent hikers report that early summer still brings heavy snow coverage, especially right after the split from Cheam, making route-finding tricky and the steep slope feel sketchy. Offline maps, poles, and in snowier conditions crampons are strongly recommended, and this is not a good choice for dogs or casual hikers. The rough 4x4 road to the trailhead needs high clearance, and the trail itself is loose, dusty, and exposed in dry conditions, with fall colours and late-season hardpack snow adding their own challenges. Aim for July to September for the most straightforward conditions, and treat Lady Peak as a serious objective, not just “Cheam’s bonus peak.”
