Trail Description
Gussy's and Owl Loop is a short, easy wander in the woods just outside Chilliwack near Lindell Beach, British Columbia, and it’s a good choice when you want something low-key but still feel like you actually went for a hike. The loop is about 3.1 km with 155 m of elevation gain, topping out around 257 m, so you’ll get the legs moving without any serious grind. Most people are done in just over an hour, and it stays fairly quiet compared to the busier Chilliwack area trails.
The route starts from Highland Drive, following the Waterworks Access Road before ducking into the forest trail network that links Gussy’s and Owl. You’ll spend most of the time under tree cover with a mix of soft dirt, roots, and the odd rocky bit, passing a small creek and plenty of ferns and mossy trunks. Views are more about forest atmosphere than big mountain vistas, which makes Gussy's and Owl Loop feel calm and sheltered on cloudy or hot days.
Recent reports mention sections of Gussy's and Owl Loop getting overgrown at times, so be ready for some light bushwhacking and basic route finding, especially later in the season when plants are at their fullest. The trail is open year-round, but expect mud and slick roots after rain and in winter; sturdy footwear is a good idea even though the hike is rated easy. There’s convenient parking near the trailhead on Highland Drive, dogs are allowed and often off-leash, and because it’s usually quiet, this loop is a solid option for a quick run, walk, or birding session close to Chilliwack.
