Trail Description

Gussy's and Owl Extended Loop in Chilliwack, BC is a quick hit of North Shore-style singletrack without the long drive or full-day commitment. At 3.5 km with about 196 m of gain, it’s short, punchy, and rated moderate, usually taking just over an hour, but it feels like a real hike thanks to the ups, roots, and twists. The loop links the Gussy’s and Owl trails into one continuous circuit, making it a solid choice for locals looking to stretch their legs after work.

The route starts from Highland Drive, heads up the Waterworks Access Road, then ducks into the forest trail network where things get more interesting. Expect a mix of wider track and tighter singletrack, with some short, steeper pushes and a few rougher, rooty sections that keep you paying attention. You’ll pass a small creek, pockets of mossy forest, and enough birdlife and undergrowth to feel properly out of town, even though you’re never far from Chilliwack.

Recent hikers on Gussy's and Owl Extended Loop report that the trail can deviate from the main green-marked route, and it’s easy to wander onto the wrong path if you’re not watching for junctions. Bring a GPS app with the route downloaded and don’t just follow random bike lines cutting off the main trail. The area can get overgrown in spots, especially in late spring and summer, so expect some light bushwhacking and wet brush after rain; this loop is hikeable year-round, but shoulder seasons can be muddy and slick, so good footwear and a bit of patience with the navigation go a long way.
