Trail Description

Gloria Trail in the Chilliwack Community Forest is the kind of hike you do for the workout first and the view second. The stats say 10.8 km, but almost every local’s GPS is calling it closer to 14–15 km with around 1300 m of gain, so treat it as an extreme grind, not a casual wander. If you like steep, quiet, leg-burning climbs with almost no crowds, this one delivers.

The route is an out-and-back that basically points uphill from the start, with slick roots, tight switchbacks, and long stretches in dense green forest. Shade keeps it cooler on hot days and you get that calm, mossy Chilliwack vibe most of the way, before breaking out in the last few hundred metres to a small lookout with a big 180-degree view toward Mount Slesse and the north side of Chilliwack. The viewpoint isn’t huge, but it’s a satisfying payoff after such a relentless slog.

Recent reports say the Gloria Trail is well marked, well maintained, and generally dry, though snow and ice linger near the top from late fall into spring, when spikes and poles make a big difference. Expect a “toe and knee crusher” on the descent and plan more time than the official 6 h 18 min; many strong hikers are logging 5–6 hours moving time alone. Creeks dry up quickly, so pack plenty of water for you and your dog, keep an eye out for bears (they’re around but usually keep their distance), and save this one for clear days if you want the view to feel worth the grind.
