Trail Description

Flora Lake Trail is very much in Chilliwack, tucked above Chilliwack Lake Road and sharing the area with Lindeman and Greendrop. At roughly 16 km return with around 1700 m of gain, this is an extreme grind, not a casual wander, and the “1 h 38 min” stat floating around is wildly off for real humans. Most locals treat Flora Lake Trail as either a full-day sufferfest to Flora Peak or a backpacking trip down to the lake and back out.

The climb from the trailhead is basically straight up through forest to the saddle, with a few creek crossings to refill water and steady, leg-burning switchbacks. Once you break treeline near Flora Peak, the views over Chilliwack Lake, the surrounding summits, and the valley are huge and exposed, and sunrise or sunset from the ridge is a highlight. From the saddle it’s a steep 300–400 m drop down to Flora Lake itself, where the water is clear, cold, and stocked with rainbow trout, and you can link over toward Lindeman if you’re doing a longer loop.

Recent reports say the Flora Lake Trail is mostly dry with muddy stretches, lingering snow patches near the peak, and no need for spikes in typical late spring to summer conditions. Expect lots of bugs from valley bottom to summit, cold temps after sunset (around 4°C at the lake and ridge), and limited camping: two raised tent pads, one ground pad, a bear cache, and a very exposed pit toilet, plus a small water source about halfway between the peak junction and lake. You’ll need a backcountry permit to camp at Flora Lake, and spots fill fast, so plan to start early, pack for a serious climb, bring bug spray and sunscreen, and don’t underestimate how long this Chilliwack classic will take.
