Trail Description
Flora Lake Trail and Lindeman–Greendrop Trail Loop is one of the toughest days you can put in around Chilliwack, and it earns every “very difficult” rating it gets. At roughly 18.5 km with about 1,470 m of gain and a high point near 1,940 m, this loop is a serious grind with long hours on your feet. Most locals now treat it more as a training route or a backpacking trip than a casual day hike.
The climb up Flora Peak is the clear highlight: a straightforward, unrelenting uphill with a well-marked trail and big views over Chilliwack Lake and surrounding peaks when the clouds cooperate. From there down to Flora Lake and toward Greendrop and Lindeman, the character changes fast: endless boulder fields, rough and steep descents, overgrown sections, muddy stretches that run like a stream, and some awkward deadfall to climb over or under. The lakes themselves are great for a cold swim or water refill, but expect crowds and noise once you drop to Lindeman, especially on summer weekends.
Recent reports agree that the Flora Lake to Greendrop section is the crux: very rocky, slow, overgrown, and mentally tiring, with snow hanging around well into spring and early summer. Many hikers now recommend doing Flora Peak as an out-and-back instead of the full loop, unless you’re very fit, comfortable on unstable rock, and ready for a long day of 8–12 hours. Start early, bring poles, plenty of water and food, and save this full Flora Lake and Lindeman–Greendrop loop for late summer or early fall when snow is gone and daylight is long.
