Trail Description

Duck Farm Loop in Chilliwack is one of those trails that feels way more “backcountry” than the stats suggest. This 5.3 km loop climbs about 292 m up the lower slopes of Vedder Mountain, hits a mellow high point around 284 m, and usually takes just under 2 hours, but the mix of terrain and constant twists keep it engaging the whole way.

The climb comes fast right out of the gate, especially if you start from the Old Wagon Trail side, then it eases into rolling singletrack through mixed forest. Up on the loop you get cool little waterfalls, wooden bridges, varied roots-and-rocks terrain, and pockets of views out toward Yarrow, the Vedder River, and the Chilliwack valley that remind you how close you are to town while still feeling tucked into the woods.

Right now the trickiest part of Duck Farm Loop is simply getting onto it: there’s active construction and new road work near the trailhead, and the access has changed enough that many people get turned around. Expect confusing junctions, side trails, and detours that may pull you briefly off the AllTrails line before rejoining; bring a GPS map, watch for the little duck signs, and don’t stress if your track isn’t perfect. The loop itself is in good shape with one easy-to-cross downed tree, and most folks find the “moderate” rating accurate, with the steepest work at the start and more relaxed hiking once you’re up top.
