Trail Description

Cultus Lake Paddle in Chilliwack is the classic hot-day escape: 12.1 km of easy, steady paddling in clear water ringed by forested hills and busy beaches. With only about 62 m of elevation gain and a max altitude of 79 m, it’s more about a relaxed cruise than a grind, and most people wrap it up in just over three hours. It’s an easy loop that still feels like you’ve actually done something with your day.

You’ll usually launch from the Jade Bay Boat Launch near Entrance Bay Campground and follow the shoreline around Cultus Lake, passing campgrounds, day-use areas, and quieter stretches of waterfront. On calm days the water is smooth and the views across to the surrounding mountains are clean and wide open, especially in the morning before the wind and boat traffic pick up. This loop works well for kayaks, canoes, and SUPs, and there are plenty of spots to pull over for a quick swim or snack.

Recent paddlers report “spectacular” days out here, but also note that it can get very busy, and many people don’t end up doing the full loop because of crowds and boat traffic. Expect peak action on sunny weekends and holidays, with powerboats, wakeboarders, and lots of noise, so go early or on a weekday if you want a calmer experience. May through August is prime season for the Cultus Lake Paddle, but always check wind forecasts, wear a PFD, and plan your route so you’re not fighting afternoon chop on the more exposed sections.
