Trail Description

Chilliwack Community Forest Canyon Loop is a solid little workout right on the edge of Chilliwack, with enough elevation to get your lungs going without turning into a suffer-fest. The loop is about 4.2 km with around 221 m of gain, usually taking around an hour and a half, and it’s rated moderate, though many locals call it an “easy moderate” if you’re used to climbing. It’s a popular spot for dog walkers, hikers, and trail runners, so expect some company and a busy parking lot on nice days.

The Canyon Loop winds through classic West Coast forest, with tall trees, ferns, and a surprising variety of mushrooms and fungi in the wetter months. The first quarter is very gentle, then the trail ramps up into a longer uphill section with zigzags that will make you sweat but are never technical. There aren’t big viewpoint payoffs directly on the loop, but there are side trails in the Chilliwack Community Forest network, like routes toward Gloria or Northview Lookout off FireLine, if you want to turn it into a longer, harder outing.

Recent hikers report the Chilliwack Community Forest Canyon Loop in good shape, though it can get slippery with wet leaves, rain, or a bit of snow higher up, so decent tread on your shoes helps. Trails are well maintained and signed, but there are lots of junctions, plus shared-use bike trails, so bringing a downloaded map and watching for signage is smart. Dogs are welcome and often off leash, mountain bikers also use the area with generally good visibility, and this loop works year-round as a quick training hike when you don’t want to drive far from Chilliwack.
