Trail Description
Camp Linley from Watt Creek Trailhead is a short, forested out-and-back near Cultus Lake in the Chilliwack area, with about 4.2 km return and 217 m of gain. On paper it’s rated easy and usually takes around an hour and a half, but the first climb out of the parking area feels more like a solid moderate grind before it eases off.
Once you’re up that initial hill, the trail settles into a mellow wander through classic coastal forest, with bright green moss on the trees and regular peeks down to Watt Creek. You’ll pass small waterfalls, hear the creek most of the way, and hit a few spots where the path narrows to single file, but it stays manageable for most hikers who are comfortable on uneven ground.
Recent hikers on the Camp Linley from Watt Creek Trailhead route report muddy sections, some washed-out bits of trail, and a short area with a steep drop to the creek, so trekking poles help a lot. One washout near a waterfall is currently passable for most people, but if water levels are high or you’re not confident with exposure, turn around there. Long pants are smart to avoid stinging nettle, and this Chilliwack-area trail is hikeable year-round, though it’s at its best in spring and fall when the forest is green, the creek is running strong, and the mud isn’t at its worst.
