Trail Description

Browne Creek Wetlands Loop in Chilliwack is one of those easy local walks you end up doing again and again. This 4.2 km loop is dead flat, only about 14 m of gain and topping out around 20 m, so it’s friendly for all ages and fitness levels, and usually takes under an hour at a relaxed pace. It’s a true multi-use path, with walkers, runners, cyclists, and the odd horse sharing the route.

The loop winds through shady trees and wetland habitat beside the Vedder River, with lots of chances to peel off onto connecting dike trails if you want to go farther. Expect calm water views, side paths down to the river, and plenty of wildlife; people regularly spot muskrats and a wide variety of birds, especially around the ponds. It’s wide, well-maintained, and feels more like a casual stroll than a hike, which makes Browne Creek Wetlands Loop a solid go-to in the Chilliwack area.

Recent visitors report the trail in good shape, with clean, wheelchair-accessible portapotties near the start and only one garbage can at the parking lot, so pack out what you bring. In salmon spawning season it can smell a bit fishy, and in warmer months the mosquitos come out hard at dusk, so bug spray is a smart move. March through October is the prime window, and if you can handle the bugs, evening is the nicest time to walk, with the low sun lighting up the Vedder River and wetlands.
