Trail Description

Big Rocks Trail via Waterworks Access Road is a short, quiet loop on the edge of Chilliwack, close to Lindell Beach, that feels more like a quick forest escape than a full-on hike. At just 1.8 km with about 78 m of gain, it’s an easy outing that most people finish in around 35 minutes, making it a handy leg-stretcher before or after time at Cultus Lake. Expect a calm vibe and very few other hikers around.

The loop starts from Highland Drive, following the Waterworks Access Road before cutting into a small network of forest trails. You’ll wander under mixed trees, pass a creek, and work your way toward the namesake big rocks and boulders at the end of Big Rocks Trail, which give the route a bit of character despite its short length. It’s straightforward enough for beginners, kids, and casual walkers, with just enough up and down to feel like you actually went for a hike.

Recent hikers describe Big Rocks Trail via Waterworks Access Road as quiet, quick, and easy, so don’t expect crowds or heavy traffic noise. The trail can get a bit overgrown in spots depending on the season, so shoes that can handle some damp grass and light brush are a good idea, and keep an eye on minor junctions for route finding. The loop is generally accessible year-round in the Chilliwack area, but it’s most enjoyable on dry days when the creek is flowing and the rocks and roots aren’t slick.
