Trail Description
Pender Hill Trail is the little grunt that delivers big views over Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast. This 1.6 km out-and-back climb gains about 165 m in a hurry, so expect your legs and lungs to wake up fast. It usually takes under an hour, but most people linger at the top because it’s hard to walk away from the lookout.
The trail leaves the small roadside parking area and heads straight into classic coastal forest, with mossy rock, roots, and a mix of trees keeping things shady. The grade is steady and often steep, with a few rocky sections that feel more like scrambling than walking, but it’s short enough to stay fun. Break out of the trees near the summit and you’re standing on open rock with wide views over Pender Harbour, the inlets, islands, and boat traffic far below.
Pender Hill Trail is hikeable year-round, but the character changes with the weather. After rain, roots and rocks get slick, so you’ll want real hiking shoes and a bit of patience on the way down; in summer it can feel hot and dusty on the exposed rock near the top. The route is well defined, but cell service can be patchy, so download your map first, go early if you want the small parking area to yourself, and plan a snack break at the summit to make the most of those views before the quick, careful descent back to Pender Harbour.
