Trail Description

Wonderland Lake Loop is a short, mellow wander at the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola near Squamish, British Columbia, and it’s a solid choice when you want an easy leg-stretcher with a bit of quiet. The loop is only about 1.8 km with roughly 48 m of elevation gain, usually done in under half an hour, but you can linger at the lake or tack on side trails to make it more of an outing. It’s a nice contrast to the busier Panorama Trail and lodge area, and feels a bit more tucked away.

The trail circles a small pond-like lake, with shaded forest, birds flitting around, and wide, gentle paths that work well for beginners and families with young kids. In summer, expect waterlilies and a calm, reflective surface; in winter, Wonderland Lake often freezes over and turns into a quiet white bowl. If you want a bit more payoff, follow the Wonder View spur off the Wonderland Lake Loop for a short climb to a stronger viewpoint over the Sea to Sky corridor.

Recent reports say Wonderland Lake Loop is currently snow-covered with a narrow packed track, so you’ll be stepping aside to let others pass. Crampons or microspikes are strongly recommended as some sections are icy and full of postholes from hikers, and snowshoes are hit-or-miss depending on how churned up the trail is. Expect limited views in heavy snow or cloud, occasional minor route confusion near the boardwalk junctions, and check the Sea to Sky Gondola app map if you plan to explore side trails like Wonder View or the Shannon area, which is sometimes closed; summer to early fall brings the easiest conditions, but winter offers a quiet, peaceful loop if you’re prepared for snow.
