Trail Description
Ray Peters Short Loop in Squamish, BC is a quick, no-stress forest walk that’s ideal when you want to move your body without committing to a big hike. At just 2.3 km with about 26 m of elevation gain, it’s more of a relaxed wander than a workout, usually done in under half an hour. Locals use it as a mellow leg-stretcher, dog walk, or warmup before heading to bigger Squamish trails.
The loop is wide, mostly flat, and easy to follow, winding through classic coastal forest with soft dirt underfoot and plenty of shade. You’ll cross a few junctions where other Ray Peters and Garibaldi Highlands trails branch off, which makes it fun if you feel like exploring a bit, but you can just stick to the signed loop for a simple outing. Expect a calm vibe, the sound of bikes now and then, and lots of space to walk side by side and talk.
Recent visitors say Ray Peters Short Loop is quiet, relaxed, and great for walking the dog, though pups should stay leashed as this is shared with mountain bikers. Because so many trails intersect, downloading a map or keeping an eye on your GPS helps you stay on the short loop if you’re new to the area. The trail is usable year-round, but it can get muddy after heavy rain, so bring waterproof shoes in the wetter months and enjoy how quickly you can dip into the woods right on the edge of Squamish.
